Research Interests

My primary research interests are the history of the Internet as a means of communication, and Digital Humanities, including archiving the Internet as well as the use of digital research tools.

My other research interest is media theory, the Internet, and the relation between the two with a view to (re)evaluating the status and relevance of existing media theories and methods.

Finally, to a lesser extent I spend time cultivating a long-time research interest: recent French philosophy, history of ideas, theories of culture, and epistemology. Of primary interest here are thinkers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Michel Foucault, Jean-Francois Lyotard and Paul Virilio.

Teaching and supervision

At the undergraduate level, I teach media history as well as theoretical disciplines such as epistemology of the humanities and theories of media, culture and society. At the postgraduate level, I teach within my research areas.

I supervise PhD projects and Master's theses within my research and teaching areas.
