I am a research scientist in the Ecoinformatics & Biodiversity Group at Aarhus University, Denmark. My interest is in quantitative biodiversity science, including macroecology, biogeography, plant-animal interactions, and global change. In my work, I take advantage of recent advances in technology, computing, numerical databasing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental modelling to (1) better understand the broad-scale distribution of life on Earth, and (2) develop solutions to cross-scale environmental problems in global change biology and conservation management. This requires an integrated and interdisciplinary effort and I collaborate with a number of people from a variety of backgrounds and countries. I believe that a sound management of our biosphere requires a quantitative understanding of biological patterns and processes across space and time, and a better transfer of ecological knowledge into conservation management and political decision making.
