I encourage student thesis writers, and other types of student research, within my primary research areas:

  • Problems in political and contemporary history relating to food and/or agriculture in Europe. Examples could be research with an empirical focus on power relations and sugar (or other food commodities); food security; genetically modified foods; Fairtrade and ideas about social justice in the world; agricultural policies and why states regulate the agricultural sector; representations and views of ‘the rural'.

  • The EU's history - also called European integration history, supranational history, international history, or sometimes transnational history. I am interested in research that focuses on the EU's history in general. More specifically I encourage work on what could be called the social and cultural history of the EU's institutions. Examples could be the development of ‘institutional cultures' in the Community; formal and informal political networks, especially personal relations across political organisations and national borders; oral history; narrativity and how to write European history that goes beyond the nation-state. Moreover, the common agricultural policy; the Lomé agreements; structural policy. Ideas of Europe.

  • Historical institutionalism; international political economy

I supervise in English or Danish - mostly, I will accept to supervise on the basis of background materials in other Scandinavian languages, German, French, Italian or Dutch.
