Aliakbar Kamari, b. 1987, finished B.E. Architectural Engineering in 2009 and subsequently joined as an architect-engineer in consultant corporations, twice, more than 4 years. Since 2010, he commenced his postgraduate degree and then graduated M.E. Civil Engineering in the field of Construction & Management in 2012. Then, he worked as an instructor at “Tehran Institute of Technology” since 2013 involving in research and teaching activities related to “Building Information Modeling (BIM)” and its related tools. He spent the triennium of his Ph.D. studies for a fully funded double degree Ph.D. program in Department of Engineering, Aarhus University, DENMARK, and Department of Architecture, University of Palermo, ITALY, carrying out an INTERDISCIPLINARY research study related to Renovation/Retrofitting of the Existing Buildings. In this period, he has collaborated with the Danish RE-VALUE research project as well. He is presently performing a postdoc period within Value Creation by Energy Renovation and Transformation of the Built Environment associated with the Re-Value project, in the Department of Engineering, Aarhus University, DENMARK. Aliakbar’s research study in Ph.D. has explored the development of a multi-methodology and sustainability-supporting framework for implementation and assessment of a holistic building renovation. The thesis, therefore, appreciated the notion of sustainability for building renovation. Thereafter, it investigated various methodologies from Decision-making, Management Sciences, and Engineering Design realms including Soft Systems Methodologies (SSM) and Hard Systems Methodologies (HSM) to cope with its various perspectives.

Aliakbar is vastly interested to perform further research related to the Methodology, Design Methodology, Building Design Methodology, Integrated Building Design Methodology, Systems Thinking & Theory, Systems Approach, Problem Structuring, and Rich Design Methodology, together with BIM methodology, BIM technologies, and BIM-based Decision Support Systems in building design process. Aliakbar attempts to build and expand Systems Oriented Building Design - S.O.B.D. approach in the early stages of the building design process. The main mission of the S.O.B.D. is to explore, adapt, and develop new problem-oriented approaches to building design, and the methods and tools that support them. The research in S.O.B.D. initially encompasses BIM, Intelligent Buildings, and simulation-based performance (SIM) assessment, passing from modeling (BIM stage 1) to collaboration (BIM stage 2), and the integration (BIM stage 3). It leads to increase and enhance the integration related to people, process, and technologies in the earlier stages of the building design process for development of more holistic sustainable design solutions, aiming at bridging architecture topics into the engineering and vice versa.
