I am doing my master's thesis on the possible endocrine disrupting effects of nitrification inhibitors. Nitrification inhibitors are widely used in agriculture where they inhibit nitrosonomas to prevent formation of Nitrate from Ammonia and Ammonium in soil. The nitrification inhibitors resemble the structure of several known endocrine disrupting compounds due to their pyridin and azole structures, which are known to inhibit the CYP450 enzymes in the steroidgenesis.
I mainly use zebrafish (danio rerio) as a model organsim using in vivo and in vitro test assays. To quantify the inhibition of CYP450 I use in vitro assays as aromatase assay. For chemical analysis I use GC-HRMS and LC-HRMS.

The project is a collaboration between KU Science, KU Sund and AU Ensv.
