Project title: Production of Protein in Innovative Cropping Systems: Quantity, Quality and Extraction

Project description: The cropping system is described as “a set of management procedures applied to a given, uniformly treated area, which may be a field, part of a field or a group of fields”. Though it is desirable in agronomic systems to attain the highest possible yield, it is also important to have high forage quality. High quality forage has high digestibility, low fiber content and high concentration of protein. The aim of this PhD study is to achieve knowledge on the quantity and quality of protein that can be produced in innovative cropping systems. The objective is to investigate the variability of N fractions in grasses and legume crops to determine their potential as a protein source for animal feed.
