The aim of the paper is to shed light on the everyday life of young siblings living apart either because of parental divorce, older siblings who have moved out, or because siblings are away at boarding schools. More specifically the object is to gain new knowledge on sibling’s ambiguous ways of interacting and connecting through mobile technologies and social media and their experience being a part of each others’ lives in doing so. In this inquiry a perspective inspired by Janet Carsten’s concept relatedness is applied to explore how young people experience proximity to and connectedness with their siblings while using technologies in their everyday lives.
